Summary of WSC duties

Below is an outline of 'who does what' in order to enable the day to day sailing activities to take place.

D.C.M. (Duty committee member)

A current or past committee member who is in overall responsible for the activity at WSC for the day.
It is helpful if a few days before his/her duty the DCM makes contact (phone or e-mail) with the other duty members, for the day, to remind them of their upcoming duty.
He should open up the club at the start of the day and make sure that all is tidy and secure before leaving at the end of his/her duty. If required he may seek advice from any officer of the club present during the day.

R.O.(Race officer)

Usually selected from a member familiar with racing and race procedure with assistance from an O.O.D.. He/she will be responsible for organising the days racing, preparation of the results and prize giving as required.

S.B.(Safety boat)

A member selected from those who hold a recognised power boat certificate. With the aid of an O.O.D. responsible for providing boat cover on the water. They must be appropriately dressed and prpared to enter the water to assist recovery of a member from the water. Before leaving the shore check that all safety equipment is on board and working.e.g. radio, first aid kit, tow ropes, anchor, cutters etc. together with adequate fuel and spare kill chord.

O.O.D.(Officer of the day)

Selected from remaining members of the club to assist as directed by thr D.C.M.
